Delicious homemade barbeque sauce with a hint of sweet, a hint of tang, a hint of spice, and a hint of smoke. Just what you need for the summer BBQ season!

Oooey BBQ Sauce is calling your name Traeger!
My husband and I were introduced to this recipe while we were finishing college. Our group of apartment managers were enjoying a barbeque together and our boss made this amazing sauce for us while we waited for our meat to cook. It’s been part of our recipe collection ever since.
I often think it takes too long to make my own barbeque sauce, so I buy it at the store. But when I make this recipe, I am reminded how easy it is to make and particularly how much better it tastes than store-bought BBQ sauce! Let’s put this recipe on our pantry shelf instead!!

Ingredients for Oooey BBQ Sauce:
- Apple cider vinegar: This is my preference. You could use white vinegar as well.
- Fresh squeezed lemon juice: If you have read previous posts, you know I love fresh squeezed lemon juice so much!
- Onion: Chop fresh onion super fine for this recipe. It’s the hint of onion you want and fresh is better than dried in this case.
- Worcestershire sauce: I love the flavor of Worcestershire sauce combined with barbeque. It gives a deep caramel-ly flavor that’s a hit with my tastebuds!
- Mustard: You can make a choice here on the type of mustard you use. I typically use what I have in my fridge at the time. Yellow mustard will give a stronger flavor, as compared to Dijon mustard.
- Black Pepper: Here’s where you get a hint of spice. And the longer you cook black pepper, the hotter it becomes.
- Ketchup: Any brand ketchup will do the trick. Ketchup is a better choice than plain tomato sauce because of the added ingredients in ketchup.
- Molasses: For a more mellow sweetener, use light molasses. For a stronger, deeper, sweeter flavor—use black strap molasses.
- Liquid Smoke: This recipe works perfectly without this ingredient—however, it just won’t taste as good! You only need a little, but it truly makes a difference. You can find this ingredient in the condiment section of the grocery store (where you find ketchup, mustard, etc.)

How to Make Oooey BBQ Sauce:
It’s simple to assemble. It just takes some time to simmer!
In a small-medium saucepan, cook vinegar, lemon juice, onion, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard until the onions are tender, about 2-3 minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Stir and simmer for at least 1 hour. Simmering longer will strengthen the flavors even more, but it will also reduce and thicken the sauce. Just add a little water to get the consistency you desire.

Oooey BBQ Sauce tastes delicious with beef, poultry and fish. Give it a try… and you’ll be firing up the grill every night!!
